Aim

To provide a sound and supportive process for nurses and allied health care professionals working in end of life care to explore and reflect on their communication skills. The course is appropriate for those who work in the community, nursing home or hospital settings and who acre for people with life-threatening, advancing disease

Course Content

  • Define appropriate approaches to communication in a healthcare environment
  • Describe validated models/tools which can be used to develop a trusting and meaningful relationship
  • Identify barriers and constraints to effective communication
  • Utilise skills for facilitating emotional disclosure in an end of life care setting and for handling complex interactions with patients and families
  • Understand the impact of helping relationships on self and identifying coping strategies
