Aim

To provide a supportive process for health care assistants with an interest in end of life care to explore and reflect on their communication skills. The course is appropriate for those who work in the community, nursing home or hospital settings and who care for people with life threatening, advancing disease..

Course Content

    • Define the approaches used to communicate in any health care setting
    • List the barriers to effective communication
    • Identify skills needed for handling difficult questions/situations with patients and families
    • Discuss the means with which to develop a trusting relationship with patients and families
    • Recognise the impact of caring for people at the end of life on self and identify a plan for coping

Fees include training notes, refreshments, and lunch.
