Remembering loved ones this Christmas with Katharine House

So long as we live
They too shall live
For they are now a part of us
As we remember them

These words are said at our Lights of Love remembrance services each year and we know how much these gatherings mean to everyone who attends these services. This year, because of the current restrictions, we need to do things differently, but we very much hope you can still share in the special remembrance activities that we're running in place of our annual services in Banbury and Brackley.

Please join us for our online remembrance event on 15 December

Join our chaplain James Grote and Katharine House colleagues for a special 30-minute remembrance event, which will be live-streamed online at 7pm on Tuesday 15 December.

To access the event please register your interest using the form below. We will then send you a link via email to access the service nearer the time. If you are unable to watch the live event, an online recording will be available shortly afterwards, which you can view from this page until Wednesday 6 January.

Personalise a heart with your dedication to a loved one

This year, instead of the books of remembrance, we are hanging golden hearts on our chapel Christmas tree. The hearts will have personal dedications on them to loved ones lost.

We are sending out golden hearts of remembrance to our supporters in early November. If you would like us to send you a golden heart of remembrance to dedicate to someone you love, please email us at [email protected] and we’ll send the heart to you.

If you would like your heart hung on our tree to receive a blessing from our chaplain, you will need to return them to us by Wednesday 9 December.

Make a dedication online

You can also make a dedication online by clicking on the button below. This page is open to all, whether you're able to attend the event or not.

Make a dedication to a loved one

If you would like to make a donation along with your dedication, this will help support local families facing life-limiting illness this Christmas. You can do that on the dedication page at the same time as writing your personal message. Thank you.

Dedications made online by Wednesday 9 December will be added to a heart hung on our tree to receive a blessing from our chaplain at the Lights of Love remembrance event.

Visit the hospice grounds to light a lantern of remembrance: 8-31 December

From 8 December we will have an outdoor Christmas Tree in the gardens at the front of the hospice, lit in remembrance of loved ones no longer with us. You are welcome to visit the tree to light and place a lantern of remembrance, which we will provide near the tree. Clear signage will make your visit safe according to the current restrictions and because of this you will not be able to enter the hospice building.

We hope that our alternative ways of remembering loved ones will bring you comfort this Christmas. However you decide to remember your loved ones, we wish you and your family peace, safety and good health.

Further support

We know that coming to terms with the loss of someone close is difficult, but you don’t have to do this alone. If you would like to contact us for support, please email [email protected] or call us on 01295 811866.

If you have any queries about the online event, please do contact the team on [email protected] or 01295 816484.

Christmas Appeal

Local families are facing their last Christmas with loved ones with a life-limiting illness. By donating to Katharine House, you can help them receive compassionate, individualised care and support so they can make the most of the time they have left together.

“Memories can still be made even in the saddest of times. Katharine House enabled this, and the staff were incredible and offered support in every way.” Jane, patient relative

Our dedicated team of doctors, nurses and support staff desperately want to make every moment matter for people in our community, helping them continue living life after loss, acknowledging difficult times, and remembering happy times too. We hope you can donate a gift, whatever you can afford, to help families living with a life-limiting illness this winter season.

Please can you make a gift today to help raise the £65,000 we need to provide care over the festive period?

Thank you.
