Take a walk around this lovely village and enjoy the fabulous gardens of six of its houses. These wonderful private gardens will be open in the afternoon for you to enjoy an array of sites, sounds and scents. You'll also be able to enjoy refreshments at the village hall, all to help support Katharine House.

The gardens include:

1. South Newington House, Barford Road - An organic garden with herbaceous borders offering all year colour, a formal 'box hedge' parterre with tulips and dahlias.  A kitchen garden managed with rotation and companion planting. The orchard with aged fruit trees around the 'wildlife pond' to view from paths carved out amongst the now past daffodils.  Please keep dogs on the lead as hens roam freely.

2. College Farm, The Town - The house was built in 1659 and is grade 2* listed and there is a thatched barn also dating from the 17th century. The garden has a pleasant enclosed feel and the property extends down to the brook through an attractive meadow surrounded by trees.

3.  The Barn House, Green Lane - An evolving walled garden with box parterre, herbaceous borders, a wildflower meadow and raised beds.

4. Bush House, Wiggington Road - a two acre garden featuring dual level ponds fed by a stream, herbaceous borders, a walled box parterre framed by wisterias and roses, an orchard, organic fruit gardens, a fruit cage and fig house. There is also a shelter belt of over 1,000 native broadleaved trees.

5. Springfield House, Bakers Lane - an old established walled garden, significantly redesigned in the last few years, with much new planting of trees, shrubs and roses in existing beds.

6. Wingate Cottage, The Town - the garden is split in two. One half is a traditional English cottage garden with shrubs interspersed with perennials and annuals, an ancient apple tree and a vegetable garden with raised beds and fruit trees. In the other half is a patio garden with roses, climbers and colourful pot plants.

Dogs on leads in five of the gardens but please note no dogs are allowed at Bush House.

Entrance is £1 per garden or £5 for all six. Tickets can be purchased at any of the gardens.

Parking is located in a field off the driveway leading to South Newington House on Barford road OX15 4JL
