We all find time for the things that are important to us in our lives - our family and friends and pastimes we enjoy, but we often put off making a Will as it's something we don't want to think about. But once it's done, you can relax knowing the people you care about will be looked after and your wishes carried out.

There's no better time to make or amend your Will than during our annual Make a Will Week when local solicitors and Will Writers have kindly agreed to waive their fees for writing or amending a basic Will. Instead, we ask you to make a donation to Katharine House in recognition of the time and expertise provided by your chosen solicitor or Will writer.

A standard single Will would normally cost in the region of £150-£200 and we would be very grateful if you would donate an equivalent amount. Find out how it works below.

Having your Will drawn up by a professional solicitor or Will writer is the best way to ensure your wishes are carried out after your death. Katharine House Hospice has teamed up with practices across our local area. Scroll down to find one local to you.

Gifts in Wills are vital to the work of Katharine House Hospice, helping to ensure we can provide care and support to people in our community. We would love you to remember us in your Will but there is no obligation to do so when you take part in Make a Will Week.

How to take part

  1. Contact one of our participating solicitors or will writers and book an appointment to take place between 19 and 23 October quoting 'Katharine House Make a Will Week'. When you speak to the practice, they will advise you of their working arrangements during the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) emergency.
  2. Consider who you want to benefit from your Will and what assets you have to leave. As well as making sure your family and loved ones are provided for, you might like to think about leaving a gift to Katharine House but you are under no obligation to do so.
  3. Meet with your solicitor to talk about your new Will or any updates you may have to an existing Will. Due to the current pandemic situation, you may want to meet 'remotely' or talk over the telephone.
  4. Make your donation. Your solicitor will provide you with a Katharine House donation form. Simply fill in your details and hand over your donation during your meeting, making any cheques payable to 'Katharine House Hospice'. Your solicitor will advise you of their usual fee for making a Will and we ask that you are guided by this amount when making your donation.
  5. Wait to hear from us. As soon as we receive your gift from your solicitor we will get in touch to say thank you.
