There are many reasons why our supporters join our Care for a Cuppa campaign and hold coffee mornings, afternoon teas, or even cocktail evenings to raise money for people facing life-limiting illness. Here's Rita's story. 

Rita and Terry Jordan were supporters of Katharine House Hospice before it was even built. Terry was present when the first sod of the building was cut and had supported fundraising and community activities in Banbury up until he died at Katharine House in 2012. Terry was involved in junior football in the town and was Secretary of the Banbury Charity Cup, a competition for local football clubs which has been donating their proceeds to local charities for over 100 years.

Rita remembers that as a couple they talked openly about when the time came, they might need the hospice and its services themselves, aware of the support they gave to patients and their families. When Terry came to Katharine House, Rita says "Terry knew the hospice would be there for him and he had never any fear about going to Katharine House. In the hospice he felt safe. The support they gave to both of us and all our family was fantastic and we can never repay them.”

Terry was part of a large local family, who often remember him fondly, and each year since the Care for a Cuppa Campaign started Rita has held an event in her home. Friends, family, and neighbours are invited and children are welcome. Rita lays on refreshments and cakes – her coffee cake is a firm favourite among those who attend. She also runs a Tombola which includes lots of prizes for the children. Rita holds her Cuppa event in March each year on the weekend nearest Terry’s birthday,
