We have launched our Christmas Appeal to help provide care for local families who are facing their last Christmas with loved ones with a life-limiting illness. We're aiming to raise £65,000, which is how much it costs to run the hospice over the festive period. 

All donations to Katharine House will help patients and their families receive compassionate, individualised care and support so they can make the most of the time they have left together.

Jane, a relative of one patient at the hospice, said: “Memories can still be made even in the saddest of times. Katharine House enabled this, and the staff were incredible and offered support in every way.” 

The hospice has a dedicated team of doctors, nurses and support staff who desperately want to make every moment matter for people in our community, helping them continue living life after loss, acknowledging difficult times, and remembering happy times too. 

Justine Williams, Director of Fundraising and Comms, said: “We very much hope our local community can give their support at this most challenging of times. Even a small gift will really help make a difference. The hospice’s finances have been badly hit by the pandemic (and even more so now that our charity shops are closed again), so we once again need to call upon the kind support of our generous community to help families living with a life-limiting illness this winter season.”

The hospice fundraising team has also devised a jam-packed series of 12 fun and festive fundraising events running throughout December: the 12 Days of Christmas. They have all been meticulously planned so anyone can pick and choose in the knowledge that participation can be done safely, many of them from the comfort of home. 

There’s a chance to test general knowledge skills in a Big Quiz, challenge friends and family to a post lockdown charity shop Christmas, or indulge in a Christmas cocktail or curry. The annual and much loved Lights of Love service will take place at the hospice this year on 15 December and will be streamed online. On 22 December, a wide range of local musical talent will also be live-streamed for a special Christmas Appeal concert. 

While the need for funds is so great, Katharine House hasn’t been deterred by the new lockdown and the ever-popular Santa Fun Run will take place on 13 December, but, as ever, with COVID-19 restrictions in mind. This year there is a choice of three virtual challenges to select from - there’s bound to be something there for everyone. The hospice relies on the Santa Fun Run to raise much-needed funds each year and this Christmas it needs your support even more than ever.
