Throughout August, Viv Melia ran 100 miles to raise over £300 for Katharine House Hospice. Taking on three miles each day, she even found time to run along the famous Copacabana beach in Rio during her visit to the Olympic Games.

Viv decided to take on the challenge in memory of her friend who passed away at the Hospice last year. She said;

“It would have been her birthday in August, so I felt the challenge was quite fitting to do this month. She was always so supportive of my running endeavours so I know she would have been really pleased. I’m so pleased I managed to get a few miles in whilst I was in Rio too!”

Viv said the decision to choose Katharine House was easy because of the care her friend received;

“It gave us all comfort knowing she was being made as comfortable as possible, so being able to do something to support that for many others was important to me”.

Despite taking on such a busy month of running, Viv wants to continue to raise money for the hospice, and continue to spread the word about how the hospice cares for people with life-limiting illnesses she said;

“My feet actually feel fine, and my legs are still attached - despite my concerns! It was a pleasure raising funds for Katharine House and I'm so pleased that I managed to raise as much as I have.”

Well done, Viv, from everyone at Katharine House!
