The Santa Fun Run is back this Christmas and we hope that you can join us at Spiceball Park on Sunday 3 December to help raise vital funds for our hospice.

At this family-friendly event, the participants will run either a 5km or 1.5km route and be welcomed at the finish line with cheers, medals, mince pies and more Christmas tunes than you can shake a Christmas pudding at! This is one of our biggest fundraising events of the year, raising over £36,000 last year. Can you help us make it even bigger and better than ever!?

One local business that is doing just that is Brethertons Solicitors, with offices in Banbury, Bicester and Rugby. The firm have been long-term supporters of our hospice, in particular via our Make a Will campaign and volunteering at the Moonlight Walk. However, last year, staff wanted to be involved in more Katharine House events and decided to support the Santa Fun Run  by entering a team and volunteering.

Craig, Flo, Katie and John donned their Santa Suits in December 2022 and took on the 5k run around Spiceball Park in Banbury, along with the other 400 Santas.

The team raised an amazing £243.75 including Gift Aid, which is enough to fund two visits from one of our Community Nurses to a patient in the comfort of their own home.

As well as supporting the event by entering a team, Holly and Sarah from the firm also came along on the day and volunteered as route marshals, having previously volunteered at the Moonlight Walk where they served up bacon baps to the hungry walkers.

This year, the Brethertons' team are back and taking on the 5km run, plus they have encouraged Holly and Sarah, who wanted to see the other side of the event, to join them!

Holly said, "Sarah and I have been taking part in Katharine House Hospice events for years but for the last two years we have either volunteered or taken part alongside several of our colleagues. It’s great to know we are supporting a local charity that is at the heart of our local community, but we also enjoy dressing up and taking part or volunteering with friends and colleagues."

How could you help at the Santa Fun Run this year?

In 2022, Katharine House Hospice received nearly £7,000 from local businesses at the Santa Fun Run and it’s always a pleasure to work with businesses, big or small. By supporting Katharine House events, you will increase staff engagement and morale, plus promote teamwork and a sense of pride within your staff. It’s also a great way to increase brand awareness and demonstrate to the local community and your clients, that your business is supporting a local, well-loved charity.

There are many ways in which your businesses can support the Katharine House Hospice and the Santa Fun Run.

Taking part

Join Craig, Flo, John, Holly and Sarah and enter a corporate team! This is a fantastic way for your employees to support the event. It’s a fun morning out with colleagues and encourages staff to get fit and healthy while raising vital funds for the hospice. You can encourage and support your staff by covering the registration fee or making a sponsorship donation to the team.

Volunteering

As Holly said, she and Sarah found that volunteering is a great way to support our hospice and gives employees a sense of pride by giving something back to their local community. We have a variety of roles available and we only need a few hours of your time. Over 250 people volunteer at the hospice every year and we simply would not be able to run our events, shops and services without them.

Sponsorship

Would you like to increase your brand awareness and support your local hospice? Well, you can do just that by sponsoring the Santa Fun Run. With the cost-of-living crisis, our events are becoming more expensive to run, but with sponsorship support from local businesses, we can keep our costs low and still put on a fabulous fundraising event!

It’s also a great way for your business to get promotion prior to the event on social media, potential PR and on our website and also to over 400 supporters and their cheer squads on the day!

For more information on how you can support us via sponsorship, please contact Sue Blank at [email protected].

Good luck to the team at Brethertons and we hope you, too, can join us!
