Please note that our community choir is temporarily suspended due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. We'll let you know when they are restarting.

Each Tuesday evening at 6-7.30pm, we run a fun and energetic choir for all ages and abilities here at Katharine House. No audition is required and there’s no need to be able to read music.

The positive impact of singing (and in particular group singing), on physical, mental and social health is well documented. Singing has been shown to improve breathing, posture and muscle tension, and listening to and participating in music-making has been shown to be effective in pain relief as well as being a great way to meet and make friends. It’s also great fun!

The community choir is led by musician and producer James Stevenson, who has released music with several bands and as a solo artist. James also runs several other community music projects, including a samba and brass band.

Present and future plans

The choir has been working on some pop songs, including familiar favourites by Tom Petty and Eva Cassidy. New repertoire is regularly introduced, largely dictated by the interests of the choir and the nature of any upcoming events we’re performing in.

James’s also welcomes instrumental playing with the choir, and eventually plans to have a dedicated backing band.

Why not give it a go and join in? Everyone is welcome and the cost is £5 per attendance to cover expenses.
