You'll answer the phone and record messages, welcome visitors to our Inpatient unit assist them with the donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and accompany the visitors down to the ward.

You'll need to be comfortable working on a busy ward and be prepared to wear appropriate and protective clothing. (This will include PPE, such as scrubs/gloves/apron/mask, which will be provided by Katharine House, whilst assisting in the ward. The hospice has a changing area and showers available).

The busiest time will be over meal times and between 1.30-4.30pm which are visiting hours. The role will operate 7 days a week – with a morning shift (8.30am – 12.30pm) and an afternoon shift (12.30pm – 5pm).

We are currently working as a COVID response centre and whilst all staff follow recommended PPE this voluntary role would not currently be suitable for someone with a moderate to high risk health condition.

You will need to respect confidentiality at all times, have excellent communication skills in person and a family manner, being sensitive to the needs of the patients, visitors and staff. You will need to ensure the highest possible standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained.

Previous experience in nursing or the care sector is ideal but we'll give you all the training you need and your support will make a big difference to patients and families.

This role requires an Enhanced DBS clearance and the completion of an individual risk assessment.
