The Moonlight Walk is our biggest fundraising event of the year. It takes place on Saturday 16 July. This year we want to make it bigger and better than ever! Can you help us make that happen?

We have a huge variety of volunteer roles from making decorations to marshalling on the night. Please get in touch if you are interested in one or more of the roles below.

Volunteering roles


  • Leafletting (mid-June): help to deliver event notices to local residents.
  • Get crafty (March-June): making decorations for our displays and our venues on the Moonlight Walk route.
  • Social media sharer (March-June): sharing events/campaigns on your local Facebook page and other social media.

Setting up and clearing events

  • Admin support (mid-June to mid-July): help to support us in the office with all the admin involved in fundraising and events.
  • Set up the route (9am-2pm* on 16 July): be part of the team to set up signage along the route for the Moonlight Walk or to decorate our event venues.
  • Set down route (12 midnight-3am* or 7am-12 noon* on 17 July): be part of the team to clear the route after the Moonlight Walk.

Event roles on the day

  • Car park marshal (5.30-9.30pm*): help the event run smoothly by managing participants parking and safe pedestrian access to the event.
  • Route marshal (8pm-2am*): help the event run smoothly by directing participants, cheering them on, providing a communication channel with event management.
  • Front walker (10 mile and 6 mile) (8.30-11.30pm): help to mark the route for walkers. You will need a high level of fitness and a fast walking pace for this role that you are able to maintain over a few hours.
  • Back walker (10 mile and 6 mile) (9pm-1.30am): help us to manage safety along the route by marking the end of the walk and providing assistance to walkers at the back.
  • Start line support team (5-9.30pm*): help hand out running packs and marshal participants at the start line.
  • Finish line support team (10pm-2am): help to marshal the last section of our walk and welcome our walkers back to the finish line.
  • Catering support (10pm-1.30am): help our catering staff supply free bacon baps to our participants.
  • Water point volunteers (8.30pm-0.30am*): help to manage water points along the route.
  • Cheering points (8.30pm-2.30am*): organise a cheering point with your friends/family/colleagues on the route.

Entertainment on the day

  • Various opportunities (6pm-2.30am*): we're always looking for musicians, singers, street performers, drama groups, dancers to help provide entertainment at the Moonlight Walk. Please get in touch if you or a group you're in would like the opportunity to get involved.

*timings are approximate - you may not be required for the whole session as they may be divided into shifts.
