For patients and families Care for patients Respite Living with a life limiting illness is often challenging for you and for those closest to you. But we will do everything we can to make it a little less difficult. You may need a week away once in a while, somewhere you can get away from home, meet new people and still have the essential care and support you need. Your family or friends may need a break or a little bit of extra help themselves and they can be safe in the knowledge that you are in a safe place. If this is the case, you can come and stay with us. We reserve one of our inpatient beds specifically for respite care, which means we can offer a one week respite stay for one person each week, running from Friday to Friday. Whilst you’re staying with us you will be looked after by our medical team on the inpatient unit. They will discuss your needs with you, including things like medication and symptom control, and they’ll make sure you’re as comfortable as you can be. You will receive the care and support you need and your family and friends can visit and be involved as much as you want. If you would like to know more about a respite stay with us, you can talk to a nurse in the Day Hospice, or to one of our Community Clinical Nurse Specialists. You can also call us for a chat on 01295 811 866. The respite places are often booked several weeks in advance so please do let us know as soon as possible if you’d like to book a place.
