Welcome to Katharine House Hospice. We really value the contributions of all our volunteers and want you to have an enjoyable and rewarding experience of volunteering with us.  

Please read the information below and then email or give your verbal consent to Rachel Burns using her contact details at the foot of the page. 

As a volunteer at Katharine House, we ask that you agree to: 

  • Represent Katharine House and fulfil its ethos in delivering services to the community.
  • Treat other volunteers and staff fairly, with dignity and with respect.
  • Perform your volunteer role reliably and to the best of your ability.
  • Be accountable for your actions and abide by the code of confidentiality and health and safety protocol.
  • Not accepting any gifts or monetary gifts from people you are supporting.
  • Give us as much notice as possible if you are unable to hold the event. 

Katharine House Hospice agrees to: 

  • Provide a safe, respectful, fair and non-discriminatory volunteering environment, respecting your skills and individual needs.  
  • Give a clear explanation of what your role involves, what is expected of you and who you should speak to if you need support.  
  • To inform you of any policies relevant to your role.
  • To be receptive to your feedback and ideas and to do our best to adjust to individual requirements.
  • Enable you to stop volunteering with us without pressure or judgement.  

Volunteering hours 

As an Open Gardens host, you decide your hours and the time commitment you are able to give. If you are unable to hold the event, please let us know as soon as possible. 

Health and Safety 

As part of our Health and Safety duty, the Katharine House Hospice regularly assesses risk. If you have any health or other needs, please talk to your contact at Katharine House Hospice. It is your responsibility to inform your contact at Katharine House Hospice of any changes to your health or personal circumstances that could affect you whilst volunteering so we can keep you safe. 

Dress code 

Volunteers are asked to comply with the Katharine House Hospice policy on Staff and Volunteer clothing.  

  • Volunteers should dress smartly but ensure that clothing is practical for their role. 
  • Clothing with excessive logos and branding is not appropriate. 
  • Volunteers in some departments may be asked to wear uniform or personal protective equipment (such as protective gloves and high vis jacket).
