How does it work?

Each week your personal lottery number is entered into a draw and the winning numbers are chosen at random.

You can purchase up to five chances a week, each chance costing £1 each. If you wish to purchase more than five chances, you will need to contact the fundraising team at Katharine House.

Any prizes you win are issued and posted directly to you; there’s no need for you to claim.

You can cancel at any time if you don’t want to remain in the draw.

How old do I need to be to enter?

You will need to be a minimum of 18 years old to play our lottery. This includes gift memberships.

Why is my monthly payment £4.34?

There are 52 draws in the year and in order to pay by Direct Debit in 12 equal monthly instalments we need to collect £4.34 per calendar month per play.

Can I choose my own lottery numbers?

Unfortunately, you cannot choose your own lottery number(s) as these are generated automatically when you sign up and are linked to a membership number. We will send you your membership number in your welcome letter and this is the number we use when publishing the results.

If you don't have a record of your membership number, please contact [email protected] or telephone 01295 816484.

How much money goes towards Katharine House?

From each lottery entry, we predict Katharine House Hospice will receive 71% for 2022-23. So even if you don’t win, your entry directly benefits the service we provide.

The remaining 24% will be used to cover the cost of prizes and 5% on administration to run the lottery.

How will I know if I’m in the draw?

If you are playing by paying cash or cheque, KHH will aim to enter you in the draw on the following Friday of receiving payment. If you are playing through a standing order, you will be entered in the weekly draw as soon as your bank has set up payment.

If you have less than two weeks playing credit, you will be sent a reminder letter to update this (for cheque and cash players). You will continue to be in the draw until the credit ceases.

If you would like to know how much credit you have remaining or whether you’ll be entered in a certain draw, please contact us on [email protected].

How will I know if I’ve won the draw?

Where possible, our team will call the £1000 winner of the draw. All winners will be sent their prize in the post within five working days of the draw, so there is no need to claim. If there is a delay, you will be notified.

Additionally, all our winners are posted on the lottery’s winners page and our Facebook page.

What are my odds on winning?

Currently, the chance of winning a prize is 1 in 158 with the odds of each individual prize being:

  • £1000: 1 in 3172
  • £100: 1 in 1586
  • £50: 1 in 1586
  • £20: 1 in 634
  • £10: 1 in 317

Can I donate my prize back to KHH?

YES! If you are feeling incredibly generous and want to donate your prize back to the hospice, you can either send the cheque back to us or give our fundraising team a call and they will arrange for the cheque not to be banked (thank you!).

What is self-exclusion and how do I do this?

If you feel like you are having problems controlling or managing your gambling and would like to stop playing, then you can ask to be self-excluded. This is a process in which Katharine House can stop your play for a minimum of six months. If you feel like you need to self-exclude then please do click the link here to download our form or call 01295 816484.

I’ve changed my address; do I need to let you know?

Yes please! We can update your records and assure you that, if you’re a lucky winner, the prize will be heading to the right place. You can do this by emailing [email protected], writing to us at:

Why do we use face-to-face canvassers?

It costs more than £4.7m to run Katharine House Hospice every year. This is £12,995 every single day. We need to fundraise for two-thirds of these costs and we rely on our local community to help fund our hospice and make sure we can continue to provide our vital care.

Our lottery plays an incredibly important part in supporting local people with life-limiting illness as well as their families and loved ones.

Using professional face-to-face lottery canvassers is a really effective way to helps us recruit the lottery players we need to provide reliable income for Katharine House Hospice. We only pay our fundraising agency for the players they recruit who continue to play our lottery for a minimum length of time.

When done with care, people recruited face-to-face often choose to support us for many years, helping us raise far more than the costs of recruiting them. We hope that your experience with our fundraiser was a positive one, that the fundraiser was polite and that everything was explained clearly.

Please contact us if you have concerns or if you felt pressurised or uncomfortable.
