Fundraising walkers will be given the chance to remember their loved ones when they take part in Katharine House Hospice’s annual event next month.

Cancelled last year due to Covid, the hospice’s popular Not The Midnight Walk event is back for 2021 and this year, for the first time ever, the brand new routes will take participants to the hospice itself, giving them the chance to visit the site and leave a special memorial in celebration of a loved one.

Also new for this year is the option for walkers to decide between the Town or Country route (or both!), each of which incorporate a host of local landmarks and beautiful scenery.

Starting out from Banbury Rugby Club, the community walking challenge of six or ten miles, in and around Banbury, starts at 2pm and continues into the early evening of Saturday 17 July, running in accordance with the latest government guidelines.

And for those who can’t make it in person, the charity will be running a virtual event simultaneously with the live event so people can be part of the Not The Midnight Walk wherever they are.

The theme for the event this year is glamour and sparkle. Walkers are encouraged to ditch their loungewear and get their glad rags on - paired with suitable walking shoes – to help raise much-needed funds for Katharine House.

Every penny goes towards running the hospice’s services, which provide vital care and support to people living with life-limiting conditions, as well as their families.

Event organiser Helen Lerwell said: “We are so excited to be back! Last year, the Midnight Walk had to turn into a virtual event because of the pandemic, so it will be lovely to see everyone out enjoying themselves.”

“Come and join us for a free glass of fizz on your return (or a special treat for our younger walkers) and then relax with a celebratory picnic at the Rugby Club. It’s going to be a wonderful party atmosphere before and after the walk – with enough space to ensure all our supporters remain safe while they have fun.”
