How did you get into your role and come to work for Katharine House?

A friend’s mum was a volunteer here at the time and told me about the job.

What’s a typical day like?

Rewarding, busy and making a huge difference to people’s lives.

What do you wish people knew about hospice care?

Our care is second to none. We give our all to our patients as we would wish for this if we ever needed it.

How does it feel to work for the hospice?

It’s a privilege to have worked at the hospice for 29 years.

What makes Katharine House so special?

The team, the gardens and surroundings.

Now for some quick-fire questions…

If I had to sum up my role in one sentence, I’d say: I absolutely love my job and it’s a privilege to look after people at such a vulnerable time in their lives.

My highlight since joining Katharine House is: job satisfaction.

If I could go anywhere in the world, I’d go to: Weymouth.

My favourite dessert is: Eton Mess.

My favourite season is: autumn. I love the beautiful sunsets and pink skies at night. Time to change your clothing, close the curtains and snuggle in on colder evenings.

My idea of a perfect day is: a day off with no plans.

My favourite thing to eat is: Indian food. I’m not too adventurous, but I love a shish kebab and salad then a warm curry to follow. Not a hot one!

Without doubt, the best animals are: Tigers. I’ve always loved tigers as they are so strong and beautiful looking. But funnily enough I’m not keen on cats.

The best advice I’ve ever been given is: be kind to others and they will be kind to you.

My proudest moment was: There’s been a few: my wedding day, the birth of my children and when we became a Covid ward at work.

People are often surprised when I tell them: I used to come to work on a moped.

When I’m not at work, you will probably find me: with my family. I love going to the cinema, theatre and concerts.

My all-time favourite film is: Titanic. I’ve watched this film many, many times and cry every time, even though I know the ending!

I’m currently listening to: Take That – my favourite song is Never Forget.

If I was stranded on a desert island, I would want: to be with my family.
